Getaway Cabin: Suches, GA

I was desperate for a change of scenery.

Repeat after me, “DES-PER-ARATE!”

I’m still very much socially averse because of the panny and kept seeing these damn Getaway Cabins pop up on my Instagram feed. I love cute, mini road-trips and figured this would check the socially distant and safe box. Sign me up. This would be my first solo trip (trip period) since my last solo trip to Seattle last February. Saddens me to even have to write that down.

Pro-tip: Book your cabin during the weekday if you can manage. Booking a weekday cut down on the inflated weekend prices by mucho! Also, check the site for discounts you may qualify for and influencers who have promo codes.

Suches, GA is about 4 hours from Nashville, 2 hours from Atlanta for reference. The weather was sketch everywhere, but I took a calculated risk and got outta Nash before the second winter storm was going to hit.

Literally Waze had me driving through the Chattahoochee National Forest along the Ocoee River. While beautiful in theory, driving alone without another soul in sight made me anxious. For me, I love the peace and serenity that nature offers (and often crave it) but I felt scared almost. I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t traveled in a while or what but it felt like the first solo experience all over again. Thankfully, I had cell service and was able to call my brother and dad just to hear familiar voices. My anxiety had me thinking the worst, assuming the worst, and concocting nightmarish scenarios. SMH. But, alas, I made it to my cabin.

Pro-tip: Arrive during daylight! Check-in is no sooner than 3 PM EST because of their intense cleaning process. Plan to arrive between 3 and 4 so you can easily navigate the area and find your cabin.

Check-in is contactless. Each cabin has a keypad. All the information you need regarding address, cabin name, and keypad code is all texted to you the day of your arrival. This same number can be used 24/7 for any questions you may have before you get there or while you’re there. I walked into the tidiest and spotless cabin fully equipped with all I’d need for the next 48 hours.

Pro-tip: Pack everything you think you’d need and want food wise—snacks, drinks, breakfast, lunch, dinner. The closest town to this location was like an hour away. Getaway provides the utensils, pots/pans/kettle, organic olive oil packets, cream, sugar, salt and pepper and mini fridge to store your food. There’s a two burner stovetop. And, of course if its warmer you can cook your food by fire (they provide wood and lighter at an additional cost).

The cabin is aesthetically appealing just as everyone’s pictures made it seem. The plush queen sized bed is situated up against a large window facing the great outdoors. There’s a small multi-purpose table and chair situated just as you walk in for eating, writing, card-gaming, reading, working—whatever you desire to use it for really. There’s a fully functioning toilet and shower—they even provide you with body wash, conditioner, and shampoo (if you’ve forgotten yours or are used to using what is provided). Of note, they do not have a mirror anywhere which makes for doing your eyebrows quite the challenge.

Pro-tip: Have a plan in mind for how you want to keep yourself entertained. There are trails in the area and sites you can visit that are a short distance from the cabins (Getaway provides a map of what’s around). Bring workout gear, bring books, bring your journal, download movies or shows to your devices, have your music and podcasts loaded. There is no WIFI, kids. Depending on your cellular carrier you might not have service at all…which is in fact the point.

For as much as my anxiety would allow, I really enjoyed my time. I did have to keep doing things to keep me grounded and keep my mind from wandering to unproductive spaces. Oh! And, I maintained somewhat of a routine. Would I do this again? Absolutely! I wouldn’t repeat this location, but definitely yes.

I think if you’ve been very conservative during this panoramic and are just needing to escape, this is a GREAT option. Go ahead and book it!
