New Year, Same Me With Adjustments

I’ve missed you guys.

In 2019 I want to be the same me, but with adjustments. I know people like saying, “New Year, New Me,” but is it ever really that way? Can we really all of sudden change who we fundamentally are just because the year changes?

Let’s face it, we all have good intentions on being this brand new person who’s taking on newer-healthier habits, but ultimately we fall short and fall back into old habits. And, that’s okay.

My goal for when this happens is to acknowledge it and attempt to do better with each new day. My goal is to make strong efforts to tweak the stuff I don’t particularly like about myself.

Three things that’s gots-ta-go (eventually):

  1. Negativity
  2. Over-Thinking
  3. Self Doubt

I have post-its all over my apartment written with “hype” notes. They’re visual warm-and-fuzzy messages meant to inundate me with positivity and compassion when I fall into a negative space or non-productive space. Life is full of good and bad days, but I’d like my mental reaction to improve on the bad days.

Five things that’s gots-ta-happen (eventually):

  1. I’d like to expand my circle a bit through connecting. I’d like to be more vulnerable with people and open up more and sooner. I want to feel comfortable asking my friends for help and reaching out instead of trying to hold it together all of the time. And, vice versa.
  2. I don’t know how, when, or where, but I’m claiming a better job opportunity and financial increase. However this looks, I’m claiming to finally be working and living in my purpose.
  3. I vow to travel more and maintain an adventurous spirit even it means I do it solo. I’ve missed out on fun and exciting experiences, as I’m sure many of us do, waiting on other people. If it’s something you want, go for it. Do not wait on other people or seek permission. (I’m v guilty of this) You only have one life to live.
  4. I want to learn something new. Whether it’s getting a new certification, taking a class, or gearing up for graduate school, it’s happening in 2019. It’s happening for real for real because this declaration has been made on the internet and I’m going to look silly if I don’t follow-through.
  5. I’m going to be more consistent with blogging and thrifting. These two outlets of mine feed my creative side and need for some sort of artistic expression. My plan is to post at least one quality blogpost each month. That’s not a lot and some may argue that it’s not actually ‘consistent,’ however, I refuse to force content. Period.

2019 is about to be a blessing.

2018 kicked my ass.

Happy New Year!
